What a great day and good turnout but unfortunately appalling organisation. It reminded me of the days when Italian Car Day was held at Syon Park. That often got full and the ‘normal’ car park was an extension of the main show. That was one of the reasons, I believe, that it was moved to Brooklands, supposedly plenty of room for everyone. But all the prime spots were given over to dealers and traders. Rosso Corsa eliminated the usual Maserati parking area by having an unwarranted high number of cars for sale. By about 11:30am (or so I was told, the M25 did not allow me to get there so early) Italian cars were turned away and directed to the visitors’ car park. No wonder I saw so many lovely Italian cars going in the opposite direction as I was approaching Brooklands.
I had to lie to the first official who was not letting people turn into Brooklands from the main road and the second official at the Brooklands gates looking at my Coupe he said “you need to be in an Italian car to get in and you clearly are not sir”. WHAT? The Gamma Coupe has been described as "the MOST Italian car". That’s as Italian as a car can get, it couldn’t be anything else from the looks alone! I think he was so embarrassed by his mistake that, together with my little ‘white lie’, he couldn’t turn me away and let me go in.
Another Coupe and a Berlina were already there and the owner of a third coupe who was directed to the "non Italian" car park went and retrieved his car so we managed to get a four Gamma mini-meet again. Unfortunately we didn't manage to get all four together for a photo-shoot.
Here's some pictures from the day:
