Today I had an extremely interesting and invigorating drive in the Gamma but I wouldn’t ever want to repeat it! I hadn’t driven the Gamma for a while so I decided today was a nice day for it.
On my way back home, I changed into third gear and then heard a bang… boing… bling... and the clutch disappeared from under my foot and stayed all the way down. Assuming that the clutch cable had snapped, I decided to continue as much as I could, as I didn’t feel like walking the two miles or so to home or to call the AA for a tow.
If you ever try to drive a couple of miles in London in third gear without stopping, I can tell you it’s not easy. It took me a lot longer than it should because on a number of occasions, like when I could see red traffic lights or queues of cars ahead, I had to detour. Crossroads were not easy either so it had to be left turns only followed by right turns as soon as possible. But I managed to get all the way home only to find that my wife blocked the driveway so the best I could do was to stall-park the car outside the house next door. I had a quick look and the cable seems intact. It looks to me that I just lost the nut that connects the mechanism to the fixed arm. Have a look at the photo and see if you agree I just need a nut and a couple of washers; or are there other bits missing?
So this makes three of my cars that are broken now. That’s not good; I am getting too old for this…
