Ian, did you change all the bushes ? I mean not only the 2 from the main lever (left and right), there is an other one in the back ! Which in most cases getting brittle and comes off. So if you move the main lever into P or N, you are actually not because there is to much clearance. The main lever is connected to a horizontal linkage at this end there is an other connection with a rubber bush. From there a linkage/mechanism is going down, outside to the gearbox :-) If this is ok then you might need to adjust the switch, but I have heard from a case where even this did not help. There was a problem inside the box :-( Good Luck
