I have just ordered a 3210B2RSTV Double Row Angular Contact bearing from simplybearings on the internet - cost £59-22 including post and packing and VAT. This bearing is the same od and id but is 3.8mm narrower than the standard SKF633007A. Jack wrote about this bearing as a possible substitute in the spring 1997 newsletter. I have found a guy locally whose garage (at home) is full of huge lathes, milling machines presses etc. and he is making me a set of spacers (inner and outer) so that the bearing will sit properly in the hab carrier; cost £12. I intend to fit the bearing and go to Florence and subsequently Turin on it so that will be a good test. I'll let you know how I get on. Incidentally, the guy (Matt Baker)reckons that he could make new hub carriers out of alloy which could be machined to take the substitute bearing without the need for spacers. I was sceptical but he seemed confident. This would also open the door to fitting alternative calipers and discs which could be good news. I'm going to drop off a spare hub carrier for him to look at next week.
