I almost feel ashamed to be asking this question, but seeds of doubt and conflicting information prompt the question - what is the correct firing cycle for a Gamma engine and how are the cylinders numbered? Obvious really isn't it - the block is stamped with the numbers, so cylinder 1 is near side front, cylinder 3 is near side rear, cylinder 2 is offside front and cylinder 4 is offside rear. And the manual then says the firing sequence is 1-3-2-4 so what's the problem? Well to me 1-3-2-4 sounds a bit odd - both cylinders fire on one side and then the two on the other side fire? Still who am I to argue. But I have one of the Autodata CDs which has a section on the Gamma and this shows different cylinder numbering. Cylinder 1 is near side front as before but then cylinder 2 is near side rear, cylinder 3 is offside rear and cylinder 4 is offside front. Keeping the 1-3-2-4 sequence then makes more sense as it goes nearside front-offside rear-nearside rear-offside front which would seem to be better balanced. There must be a simple explanation. Can someone enlighten me please. Thanks
