I would say running without a thermostat is not a good idea for two reasons. Firstly, there's no control of temperature and while it seems to be running well at the moment with the unexpectedly warm weather that we are having, the engine will run far too cold once we get colder weather. An engine running too cold will wear quicker than normal and of course your heater will not work so you'll suffer as much, if not more, than your Gamma engine. Second reason is that a Gamma thermostat is not a simple on/off device but a changeover device changing the route of the coolant from just going round the engine to going round the radiator and the engine. With the thermostat removed, you are getting a high volume of coolant simply circulating round the engine and not being cooled by the radiator. Once we get some really hot weather, you might find that the car overheats since insufficient water will be cooled by the radiator.
