I have been putting together plans for the 2007 Spring meeting in North Wales. The proposed date is the weekend of 21/22 April with the option of an overnight stay on Friday 20 April. We plan to base the tour just outside Llangollen, which has relatively easy access from most of the UK staying at the Bryn Howel Hotel which is adjacent to the canal about 3 miles East of Llangollen about 90 minutes drive from Birmingham or 75 minutes from Manchester.

At the present time the proposed itinerary is as follows:

On Saturday we will set off at about 10.00am on what must be some of the best and most beautiful driving roads in the country through Llangollen with its picturesque setting on the river Dee, steam railway and canal, on to lake Bala and the Snowdonia National Park to arrive just outside Portmeirion for lunch at Castell Deudraeth (two courses for £12.50). After lunch a minibus will take us down into Portmeirion itself to look around this extraordinary village described as “a glorious medley of Italy, Wales, baroque, reason and romance” (could also be a description of the Lancia Gammas). Portmeirion is famous for the 1960’s TV series the Prisoner. We will then continue our drive through Blaenau Ffestiniog with its slate mines, Betws-y-coed, the North Wales coast and return to our hotel for dinner.
