No, I just took each plug out in turn to do the compression check (and put it back in after each test). Obviously the wrong way to do it? I think I'll take the head on the lower compression side off and see. It's the nearside one which is easier to do. It's also not the one I had to change the gasket on a couple of years ago so most probably the culprit this time round.
